You can keep your permanent resident card, if applicable at the time of applying for a new permanent resident card.

However, you should return your old card to the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration officer when you want to receive the new card.

If you need to travel and return to Canada after they have applied for a new permanent residence card, you can continue using a valid permanent resident card.
